Dancing With The Stars: Another One Gone
Did Cristian & Cheryl's fans rally behind them this week or did they switch their loyalty to another pair of dancers? We found out last night on the Dancing With The Stars results show and it was definitely shocking.
After an encore dance from Jason & Edyta, Len told the couples that there would be a rule change next week. The judges decided to work with the dancers instead of against them and informed them that they would be allowed to do one lift in each of their dances next week. That's been a long time coming and the news was well received from both the audience and the dancers.
Was it just me or could you also not stop laughing during both of Def Leppard's performances? Seriously, they were such an odd choice for the show. There had to have been another band or artist who had an album dropping this week. Don't get me wrong. I had some really good times back in the day to "Pour Some Sugar On Me" but it was twenty years ago. Did the lead singer have a facelift? Please tell me he wasn't wearing hair extensions. Their new single is a hit? That's weird because I haven't heard it on the radio anywhere.
Both of the Dance Center segments were hilarious. Their skits are always my favorites on results night and Kenny Mayne and Jerry Rice didn't disappoint. Len, as always, was a fun sidekick to the duo.
Before the elimination, Tom and bushy-haired Samantha called Cristian & Cheryl down on the floor to have a little chat. They asked him about his arm and what had happened to cause the injury. Cristian said that the doctors told him he had a ruptured tendon of his bicep. Now I don't know about you but that sounds really painful. After having an MRI done, the doctors told him he would need surgery to repair the damage but still gave him the green light to continue on with the show if he felt comfortable enough about it. He chose to trudge on.
And then it was the moment everybody had been waiting for. Would Cristian & Cheryl be in the bottom two? Absolutely not! Marissa & Tony and Shannon & Derek were the two under the red light this week. In this seventh week of competition, it was announced that Shannon & Derek would be leaving.
They both professed their undying friendship toward each other and made their way to the dance floor for one final dance. Poor Shannon looked really distraught and couldn't stop crying on Derek's shoulder. I honestly felt bad for the girl. She had improved a lot since the beginning of the season and I was excited to see what they would do next week. But alas....
Next week, Dancing With The Stars will be celebrating its 100th episode. The judges will be counting down their top ten dances of the first five seasons and many many stars will be coming back to dance. Even Maks will be back! Yum yum!

I think Derek & Shannon were evicted for no other reason than their comments of last week regarding judging. Also think it was an ABC decision, not the voting public.
I loved this show but have barely watched it with any kind of enthusiasm. Kristi is truely an unfair advantage and there is no doubt that she will win. There is no fun in watching it because of that. Dance experience is 'dance experience' and should not be allowed on this type of show. She is an olympic winner for Gods sake, ice dancing!! And while I say that, Drew, Sabrina and Mario should never have been on either. Give me a Kelly, Apollo, Mario L, or Stacey with ZERO experience and watch them LEARN! Those are the type of people I want to watch compete! Show is going downhill with these semi pros and I am done.
Oh my HD, is Maks your man?
From HD - I wish! *sigh*
Oh Diff, I so "diff" with you on this one. I would have been bored silly if Mario, Apolo, Sabrina and Christi weren't on these shows. The show is about dancing and I don't want to see brilliant professionals just dancing with the likes of some of the dufusses that are on these shows. There is a huge difference between what Christi does on the ice and actually being on a dance floor dancing. Plus, the chick overcame a club foot to be where she is today. I also wasn't aware that Apolo and Mario had anything even closely resembling a dance career. Now if a real professional dancer was on the show that would be another story. Truthfully, I'm surprised the professionals aren't injured more often the way that Derek was injured. Not saying that Shannon caused it but the likelihood of injury happening when you are dancing with someone who doesn't know how to dance is very high. About the elimination - I don't know if Shannon and Derek were ejected for that reason or not. Bro and Sis Derek and Julianne are my favorite dancers on the shows. They are brilliant and I am sad that they are both gone. Marissa, with her big puppy dog pleading eyes practically begs for votes every week so I am sure that is what kept her in the competition. And Mario came close to getting eliminated last time so I am sure his fans did what they needed to keep him in it this time. I think it was just in the cards for Derek and Shannon. How funny was that Monday Night Football dance though? Anyway, that's my opinion on it Diff and HD. Peace.
BenF,
Heh BB buddy. Nice to see you here. I read you religiously @ silly hamsters.
I didn't say Apollo, or Mario Lopez had dance experience. I said they were the kind of people I like watching. Apollo was/is a speed skater and Mario Lopez an actor. I did however say that Drew, a member of the boy band, (the name escapes me), Sabrina, from the Cheeta Girls, the current Mario, Kristi Y, and can't remember the chicks name from the Spice Girls, all have/had dance experience. They all truely have/had an unfair advantage, whether they had a fan base or not. I LOVED watching Apollo, Emmet, Stacy, Kelly, Joey, John (from Seinfeld), Mario Lopez, Helio, Ali's daughter, and a few others, that never danced a lick in their lives, learn to dance and did incredibly well in the show. 4 were champs and the others in the top 4.
To me this is not like BB, and I could care less who wins. I love watching them evolve. But Kristi is such a blatent case of has experience, that there is no hope for anyone else. That has taken so much away from the show for me. I think Kristi is an incredible skater, has over come odds, but as ballet movements, floor exercises for upper body movements are so much a part of ice dancing, it is a clear advantage to me.
Also, I didn't really care about Shannon or Derek. I wouldn't have banked on them going much farther. I said I just believe that the stink they made, and as it hit the airwaves and even little town papers like here in Cleveland, that I think ABC was making an example of them. You can't bad mouth the judges or other couples! It was very poor sportsmanship on their part. They fell all over themselves with 'sorry', but too little, too late!!
Heh, do you think you could get gray to start 'hating over here'? I love the banter between ya'll and others...
Respectfully, diff
Gee - I missed Diff and BenF, trapsed over here and bingo, here they are!
I agree what were they thinking with Def Leppard? Huh?? And I love the Dance Center commentary - just good fun!
Kind of sorry to see Shannon and Derek go, but not surprised. It will be interesting, now that they are allowing a lift in the dance, on how Cristian will handle that with his injury. And I totally agree with Diff on the unfair advantage of those that have "dance experience." I would prefer a level playing field and then see how each star progresses and improves. That is the way it used to be. Now it seems like there is at least one or two each season that have some kind professional "dance type" experiance.
I am with you HD on seeing Maks again. I really miss drooling over him this year.
Hey, get your sports straight. Kristi Y was an olympic figure skater, not an ice dancer. And other athletes have taken ballet lessons to improve their balance and coordination-- that doesn't constitute dance expertise. Marissa is on Broadway-- which means she definitely has had dance experience. Kristi just turned out to be a natural, don't be a hater because she has better coordination then some of the others. Emmett Smith had ballet-- so what. Go Kristi!!
And Kristi didn't skate with a partner!
Thank you, lindabrownssister. I was formulating a response to diff's comments about Krisi being an ice dancer, but now I don't have to. I also wanted to add that Stacey admitted to having years of ballet training, so she was not exactly with ZERO experience.
And we all have to remember that it is not necessarily the best dancer that wins. I think that Mario was a better dancer than Emmett, but Emmett's personality carried the day. Ditto for Melanie and Helio. I will, however, never admit that Joey was better than Apollo though many might dispute that (hee hee). So I don't think it's a foregone conclusion that Kristi will win.
And Kristi didn't skate with a partner!
Was speaking of the Joey from Stacy and Mario's season, not Joey Fatone, another boy band member.
Hey, got my sports straight! My daughter has been skating since she was 4. Guess what is required of her to take along with ice practice? Bet ya can't guess!! If figure skating isn't dancing on ice, then I don't know what is? IMHO.
Certainly not a HATER of anyone. You should really read the entire post, not just the parts that piss you off. You would have seen that I have much respect for her. Just have my own opinion, of which I'm entitled...
Oh sorry Diff, I read your post then didn't respond to it til later and thought I remembered you including Apolo. And Diff is right ladies... he is usually very neutral and has very fair and balanced things to say and is definitely not a hater.
And speaking of haters and to answer your question Diff... nah, let's not tell Gray that there's another place he can come to hate. :)
