Dancing With The Stars: Season Six Begins

| | Comments (1)

How cheesy is it that I giggled like a little schoolgirl when I heard the opening music for the sixth season premiere of Dancing With The Stars? I couldn't help it though. I love this show!

Without even seeing the ladies dance yet, I can guarantee you this will be a great season. I think the guys started out better than they ever have. Of course, there are a few that look to really have some potential and then there are the couple that you just know won't make it very far.

Adam Carolla is one of those guys that I don't think will last very long and two-time champion Julianne is the lucky lady stuck with him. He was just so stiff and his footwork wasn't that great for having practiced for four weeks already. He was like a big lug on the dance floor and it showed in their scores. They received triple 5s and the lowest score of the evening.

Steve Guttenberg and Penn Jillette are two more guys that have a lot of work ahead of them. Penn, who is teamed up with Kym, might have a tad more work to do than Steve. But, for being one of the largest stars ever on the show, he did better than I thought he would do. He did have great energy on the dance floor though so if he could just lighten up on his feet a little he could stick around longer. Steve, coupled up with Anna, had far more enthusiasm than Penn did. He also seemed genuinely excited to be on the show. Steve was very charming on the dance floor and you could tell he was trying his hardest. The biggest complaint he received from the judges was from Bruno who told him that he needed to stop hunching his shoulders.

I would place Cristian de la Fuente's performance with Cheryl (also a two-time champion) in the middle when it came to the dances. The judges agreed with me (or am I agreeing with them?) and they received triple 7s. Cristian said he felt some pressure on him because he's a Latino and aren't all Latinos supposed to be able to dance well? Their cha-cha-cha wasn't that bad but he definitely needs to work on his footwork and his posture.

The best dances of the night by far belonged to Jason Taylor and Mario. Jason, a defensive end for the Miami Dolphins, is teamed up with Edyta this season and he definitely has a lot of potential. He was very elegant on the dance floor even though you could tell he was very nervous. The dance was a little on the boring side but I expect him to be much better next week with his second dance. Mario stole the show last night though. The R&B star is the youngest competitor ever on the show and just might give Karina her first championship. Unfortunately for her, she hurt her neck during one of their practices and had to actually have surgery for a herniated disc. He kept practicing in her absence and I couldn't believe it when she actually resumed practice with her neck brace. Talk about determination! Their dance was great and the only thing the judges really criticized him on was his footwork. They still received the highest scores of the night though (triple 8s).

I really can't wait to see how the guys do next week. Now that they have their first dance under their belt I think we're going to really see them loosen up a little. They're going to have to because they'll be performing Latino dances.

There will be no elimination this week among either the guys or the gals but there will be a double elimination next week. The male and female couples with the lowest scores will be hitting the road. So if you have a favorite, you'd better be voting for them!

*Note - I'm not sure when or if I'll get a recap of the ladies dances up since the show falls on the same night as The Biggest Loser and Big Brother. If you want to read about ladies night and comment on it, head on over to Film.com where there will be sure to be a great write-up on it. Don't worry though -- I'll still watch it thanks to my lovely DVR. How could I not watch? DWTS is one of my favorite shows! Thanks everybody!

My first thought was "Poor Julianne" and that was even before I saw them dance! You're right in that Karina might win the championship this year, but I just can't warm to her. And Kym must be the most unlucky person ever -- she always seems to get one of the least-coordinated people.

I can't wait to see the women tonight, but it's going to be a busy night with AI, BB, BL and DWTS!!!
