Survivor: High School Friend Contest

Ni hao! What another great episode of Survivor! We had a poker player who obviously didn't pay too much attention at last week's tribal council and a flight attendant who lost his nerve to make what could possibly be one of the biggest mistakes in Survivor history.

The episode begins at the Hae Da Fung camp on night 21. The survivors had returned from tribal council and were laying down for the night. Jean-Robert was still anxious over getting away with the staying for another three days because of Jaime's playing an immunity idol that wasn't. James tells us they have to keep Jean-Robert's "dumb ass in line because they need his votes." The way James said that was pretty hilarious.

It's day 22 and James is up fishing while the others are still sleeping/resting. He caught two fish without even having the net out all the way! Amanda tells us that she's worried that James could win it all because of his having the immunity idols and his physical strength. Perhaps y'all should do something about that Amanda.

At the reward challenge, it will be two teams of four playing against each other. One member will sit in a boat while the other team will toss buckets of water at them trying to sink it. The first team to sink the other team twice wins a trip to an ancient village where they'll have an authentic Chinese meal and will get the magical scroll. Yeah, I know it's not magical but whatev.

Jeff picked PG and Jean-Robert as the captains of the two teams and that begins the time-honored tradition of picking the most popular kids on the schoolground to play with them. PG's team was made up by herself, Frosti, Erik, and Courtney. Jean-Robert's team was himself, James, Todd, and Amanda. Denise didn't get picked and walks away pouting while kicking the rocks underneath her feet (not really).

There was really no competition as Jean-Robert's team kicked major butt in sinking the other team twice within the blink of an eye and, after receiving the scroll, they're off to the village. After several blurs of Amanda's rear (poor Chinese villagers), they sit down at the table and open the scroll revealing a final clue to the whereabouts of the hidden immunity idol. Jean-Robert is blown away by the fact that there is a hidden immunity idol and thinks they should try to find it as soon as they return back to camp. Um Jean-Robert, were you not paying attention at the last tribal council? Did you think Jaime just made up that whole immunity idol thing? Way to read the cards man.

Back at the Hae Da Fung camp, the other five are cooking the fish that James caught earlier and discussing options. Peih-Gee was pushing hard to get Denise to think about joining their side so that they would have the numbers. The reward winners arrive back at camp in the middle of the night and lay down to sleep. Jean-Robert waits until the others are asleep and then he gets up to look for the hidden immunity idol. Haha! He pulls down all four of the plaques from the archway and hides them in the bushes to look at later. He finally lays down as the sun is coming up.

On day 24 (there was no day 23 on the show last night -- weird), Todd says he's tired of James' and Jean-Robert's voice and is upset that James has both of the immunity idols thanks to him and that he hasn't even offered to give one of them back. Todd explains to Amanda his very brilliant plan of blindsiding James at tribal council. How to do that? Convince James that Peih-Gee is a goner so that he doesn't bring his idols to council with him and hope that James doesn't win immunity. Frosti is down with the plan too after being told about it.

Immunity is up for grabs! The survivors, after wading through a swamp to get there, have to sit on barrels filled with water and not lose their balance. The catch? The barrells will be unplugged and slowly losing water making them very unstable and hard to balance on. Jean-Robert was the first one out and then Denise, James, Erik, and Peih-Gee. Amanda disqualified herself by touching the barrel in front of her. After 30 minutes, it was down to Courtney, Todd, and Frosti. Todd falls and then Frosti. Courtney's bony butt wins immunity! Didn't you love how Peih-Gee was blowing her nose and it was picked up in the audio? How funny!

Back at the camp, Jean-Robert told Erik that he has the immunity idol. Erik told him he's wrong and Jean-Robert says he does have it. Finally, Erik coughs up the info about James having both of them and Jean-Robert kicks himself in the butt about being too late to figure things out. When Jean-Robert and James go fishing later, Jean-Robert confronts James about the idols. James plays stupid the whole time which really ticks Jean-Robert even more; enough so that James tells Todd they should blindside James at tribal council. Brilliant plan Jean-Robert! I think we've heard that somewhere though. Not sure where but....

Well now that Jean-Robert wants to use Todd's plan unknowingly, Todd decides to switch things up and try to swing it so that Jean-Robert gets voted out. Amanda thinks that would be stupid and would rather go back to the original plan of getting Peih-Gee out. After telling Courtney and Frosti the new plan, it seems like Jean-Robert might be the one leaving.

And indeed he was. Jean-Robert was voted out by a vote of 5-3-1. James received three votes and Peih-Gee received her vote from poor Denise who was left out of everybody's plans. Jean-Robert was shocked when Jeffybear told him he was out and James looked flat out scared because of receiving his three votes. I don't think he'll be leaving his immunity idols back at camp anymore.

Next week, tension rises at Hae Da Fung and there is a surprise at tribal council. Seems they don't head back to camp after tribal council next week because there is more business to attend to there. Hmmm.

What are your thoughts on last night's show? Can you believe how stupid Jean-Robert was? I think they made a huge mistake in not getting James out (even though he's my fave). Do you think Todd made the wrong choice in switching up the plan? And what do you think happens at next week's tribal council?

I can't believe that Courtney won something after exhibiting major suckage at the reward challenge and every other challenge for that matter. It was a perfect time, strategically, to blindside James, but since Todd "likes to mix things up," they got rid of J-R instead! WTF? I hope that this was their last chance, and I want to see James win every immunity challenge from here on out. I really hated to see Todd at tribal council mugging for the camera when his stupid plan came to fruition. That little weasel is really starting to annoy me.

I think that Amanda is the real smart one this season. I also think it was a major mistake to leave Denise out of the reckoning. Both her and James have to have some major questions right now! If they both leave the alliance, it would be 5-3. So if they stick together, they could be a swing vote next week, and get rid of Todd.

YIKES !!!
1st- I feel bad for Denise. I’m from MA, like her.. so I’m routing for her, but think I would be anyway. And I feel bad that suddenly she is being left out of challenges and strategy. I hope she sees her ONLY vote for PG as a big clue that she needs to do something to save herself. They obviously are not including her. She and James should hook up with PG, Eric and Frosti..
2nd- good for Courtney it was amazing to see her not move a muscle, but UGH !! I just can’t stand her. It makes me cringe to look at her. What is up!! Does she have a medical condition?? She is so pale and thin and sickly looking. But, I think we will be looking at her for a long time. As JR tried to point out last week (and he hit it right on the head !!) she is going to make it to the end, by not being a threat. I don’t think she has a chance in you know where to win.. But she will be in the final 3 I guarantee!
Lastly, I feel bad for JR- I don’t see how bad he really was, I thought he was somewhat amusing, not a threat at all. And I don’t know why they all hated him so.

GO JAMES AND DENISE ALL THE WAY !!!!
Well, there’s my 2cents from Survivors biggest fan:)

Not getting rid of James last nigth was a HUGE fock-up. Like HD said, he will not be going to TC without the immunity idols again!

I figured Courtney would do well in that challenge because she's so light that while sitting on the barrel she had a lower center of gravity than everyone else.

What a great episode! Whodathunk that stick girl could win immunity? Not me! Her performance in the reward challenge was beyond pathethic --I didn't even see her try to bail out the water or move the boat to the middle. Maybe she is just too weak for anything physical, while sitting still on a barrel is easy because she weighs next to nothing.

As for the rest -- stupid, stupid move not voting out James when they had a chance (but I am glad they didn't!) I was sweating bullets for James at tribal. It wasn't too smart for him to trust them and not play one of the idols just in case. He got lucky and I'll bet he won't make the same mistake twice!

I felt sorry for Denise. Talk about being left out of the loop on everything. It was unfair she had to unvoluntarily sit out the reward challenge, and sad when she mentioned always getting picked last. The least they could have done was let her go on the feast with the winners, eh?

I hope Jean-Robert is better at playing poker than he is at the game of Survivor. And I really laughed when I read that Jaime said she knew the idol she gave Jeff was fake. Um...what possible reason could she have for playing it then? LOL.

I had forgotten than the immunity idol had to be played *before* the votes were read. James may bring the idols with him to subsequent tribal councils but he won't know *when* it needs to be played!

It may have been perfect last night to scare him a bit so he uses the idols the next two councils. Then once he has used both (assuming he keeps both), he can be voted out.

Goodness!! What fun!!

I agree that not blindsiding James was a big mistake but like most people I am happy that James is still in the game.

I wonder if someone tries to steal one of James' HII's and gets outed after tribal council next week. Is that the business they have to attend to??

You mean they aren't allowed to steal the idol if they can? They throw competetions, they lie, they do all sorts of things. Why couldn't they steal the idol?

I'd definitely try to steal it if I could. At least one... sheesh!

And yes James is my favorite too. :)

They are not allowed to steal personal property from their fellow players. Jaime was told that in an interview here.

"Reality TV World: That leads well into my next question. Why didn't you go all the way when you snooped through James' bag and actually look at the plaques he had to compare them to the one you found?

Jaime: (laughing) I wanted to steal the idols, but then I found out you're not allowed to.

Reality TV World: Okay, I didn't know that.

Jaime: Yeah, you're not allowed to steal the idols because that was my first thought. I thought I had just opened a bag of gold.

Reality TV World: Did they tell you that rule before the competition started?

Jaime: No they didn't (laughing). I think they told me when I went through his bag. They were like, "Hey, that's considered personal property you can't take those."

Last nights flip to vote John Roebert out and not blindside James, was just about as stupid as Eric not using the POV in BB8 so one of the Donatos could be voted out (OK, OK we all know that Eric was not allowed by the Big Brother producers to use POV but you know my point...)

You could tell by the look on James's face that he had no idea any votes were coming his way.
What an opportune time to blindside him.

If he winds up winning, he deserves it 100% bc the other people in the game just gave it to him by not voting him out last night.
Now he is onto them, and will likely use his Idols, if he does not win immunity himself.

John Robert was not a threat.
He was not in the inner circle,
He could have been gotten rid of at a later time, but last night getting rid of James would have changed the game for everyone, and they were stupid to vote on emotion for JR.

That immunity challenge was made for Courtney! It is a lot easier to balance a bag of marshmallows than a sack of potatoes. . . I thought the immunity necklace was going to slip right over her boney shoulders and land on the ground!

Todd is really beginning to annoy me. I guess I always dislike the players who think they are controlling the game -- and the lemmings that follow them!

If James can win a few immunity challenges and use the two idols for the ones he doesn't win, he could potentially make it to the very end. But I don't think he will presume he is safe ever again.

Sharon said:

I am glad the winds of change were in James favor, not against him last night and he is still there.

Yes, I think there was a missed opportunity last night, but since no one knows when he will use the Idol, they could have voted him out, only to have him use it beforehand, and that would have tipped their hand. But on the other hand, James took a gamble and it paid off. Plus, yes he has two idols, and they could make him use them in the next two contests, but... he would only have to use them if he does NOT win immunity. So it is not over until it is over.

Frankly, I would like to see stick girl go - she really doesn't bring anything to the game, and I would hate to see her fly under the radar and end up in the finals.

Susie said:

That Immunity Challenge was tailor made for Courtney. How would a barrel tip if there is only a ghost sitting on it? The heavier people went first so that just shows that it was designed to give the lighter people the advantage. Once again the quick but invisible hand of the producers intervenes in theoutcome!

I think the reason that JR is gone is because Todd got angry because JR had "stolen" his great idea of blind siding James. He let his anger mess up his thinking. He wants to be known as the great strategizer and JR made the mistake of stepping on his toes. I'm happy because I'm a fan of James but that was very very stupid of Todd.

I hope Denise sees the writing on the wall and realizes that she is not a part of the power group and I hope James sees the votes he got as a warning and I hope they both align with PG and Frosti.

And I hope the Producers will slant the remaining Immunity Challenges to help James instead of stick girl. She is so useless. She couldn't even put energy into the reward challenge.

It looks like CBS is going to go ahead with an early BB9...per their casting director, they're eying an Early February start (with civilians, not celebs)-further speculation is they could air at 10PM 4 times a week instead of three...

HamsterDame, I was wondering what you're thoughts were on the news that Big Brother 9 will start the first week of February because of the writers guild strike. Maybe you could make a post on your feelings. I'm excited. Apparently, having season 9 early will not effect the schedule of Big Brother in the summer. So it looks like we get 2 seasons of Big Brother next year. Hopefully it goes well and we can have 2 seasons a year from now on like Survivor.
