Dancing With The Stars: The Finale Before The Finale

| | Comments (8)

I can't believe that there is only one more Dancing With The Stars show to watch. It doesn't even seem like the show has been on for two months. I'm going to be sad that it won't be around next week so I really appreciated it's 60 minutes of airtime. Last night, each of the pairs had to dance a dance that the judges picked for them and then danced a freestyle routine of their own. There were some definite hits and misses of the night.

The first couple to dance was Mel & Maks. I thought their cha-cha-cha was cute (especially in the beginning) but I've seen them do better in previous weeks. One thing though, Mel didn't leave much to the imagination last night. Her outfit was teeny tiny. When it came to the judging, Len thought they were crisp, clean, and precise. Bruno remarked on how great of a dancer she's become in the last two months. Carrie Ann said she expected more excitement out of them. They received 9-9-10 for a 28 out of 30 in the first round.

In the second round, their freestyle was a crazy hip-hop number. I don't know why but, sadly, it wasn't quite what I was expecting out of them. At the end, Maks had a hard time getting up and I wasn't sure if he was hurt or just tired. Please don't be hurt Maks! Carrie Ann thought they were better than what they showed in their freestyle; Len loved the lift and chair work but thought their routine was "slightly disjointed"; and Bruno thought it was cool and hip. They received triple nines from the judges for a 27 out of the 30 in the freestyle round. Their total for the night was 55.

Unsurprisingly, Marie & Jonathan were the second couple to dance in both rounds. Why is that? Well they're not as good as the other couples so they couldn't open the show or close the show so delegated to the middle position they were. Their first dance was a samba and I don't think it could have been more boring. Her outfit didn't help much. She was wearing this hideous yellow thing that had a black panel in it that ran from her hips to under her boobs. It made her look like she was three feet wide. Bruno thought it wasn't their best dance, Carrie Ann said her range of motion was limited, and Len told her that she's not the strongest of the finalists. They scored triple eights in that dance for a 24 out of 30.

Their second dance? I'm not even quite sure what to say about it except it was awful. Performed to The Rolling Stones' "Start Me Up", Marie played a rag doll character that Jonathan was trying to "start up". I wished their freestyle had lasted another five minutes just so I could have continued laughing at them -- it was that bad. Len said it was a good idea that didn't work and Bruno thought it was the loopiest thing he'd ever seen. When Marie tried to protest, Bruno said their freestyle defied criticism and that it was like watching Baby Jane and The Bride of Chucky on the dance floor. Carrie Ann gave them credit for taking a risk but said that it was an odd choice. They received scores of 8-7-7 from the judges for a 22 out of 30. Their total after both rounds was a 46.

Helio & Julianne were the third couple to dance this evening and they had some problems on their first dance, the jive. They danced to "The Twist", were dressed up in 50's era outfits, and were really cute. Unfortunately, their jive wasn't as cute as their looks. It was a fun routine but it was sloppy. Carrie Ann thought their routine was exciting but told them they had problems with their footwork; Len said there were too many technical problems; and Bruno told them that everybody loves them but that their footwork just wasn't that great. They received 8-8-9 for a 25 out of 30 on their jive.

In their second dance (and the final dance of the night), they brought the place down. You want to talk about "bringing it"? They brought it. They started off in race car driver outfits and them tore them off shortly into the routine. Their freestyle dance was absofreakinglutely amazing and so much better than the others! Bruno loved the difficult lifts while Carrie Ann said she was worn out from watching them and that it was a perfect blend of technique and entertainment. Carrie Ann did also say though that they were rough coming out of some of the lifts. Len said he thought it was the best freestyle of the night by miles. They received 9-10-10 from the judges for a 29 out of 30 and a total score of 54 out of 60 for the night.

Tune in tonight to find out who will win the giant disco ball trophy. Just please oh please, don't let Marie win the whole thing.

What a snore of a finale! None of the dancers were as good as they have been in the past. It seemed like everyone was running on autopilot.

Then there was Marie's rag doll. Honestly, all I could say watching it was "WTF"! Is it my imagination or did Jonathan just really drag her around the stage for a few minutes? It was mind-blowingly bizarre. For the integrity of the show, they can not let her win after that, regardless of who might be mindlessly dialing for her.

I guess I think Mel B should win, but I'm not very excited about it!

I think Helio and Julianne should be ahead of Mel and Maks in the rankings. The judging was totally biased last night. In the first dance, the fact that Marie and Jonathan came anywhere near Helio and Julianne's score is proof of that. They were both entertaining but Helio was technically head and shoulders above Marie. Mel and Maks were not my cup of tea last night and I disagree with Bruno awarding them a 10 in the first dance. As for their second dance, Len has been all over people in the past for using props and wasting time. The chair part of the dance fell into both categories. It is what it is though. I hope lots of Helio fans voted last night.

I was so irritated last night listening to Marie. She got quite snippy with the judges (so much for the sweet and funny Marie.) And all I heard were excuses - when they commented on her mistakes, her come back... Well, gee we only had 10 weeks to learn. Gee Marie, that is all the rest of them had too. The doll one was just them trying to make it look like she could dance, while letting Jonathan do all the work. And again, the excuse of almost 50 year old lady, blah, blah, blah. She should never have made it this far - terrible and boring.

Mel and Max, I have seen better from them, and the fact that they brought in outside dance trainers for their freestyle. Again she has too much current professional help and experience. And Max getting up slowly, that was scary, I know he likes to tease, but I don't think that is what it was - he didn't look his usual self when they got their scores. Plus, Mel pretty much ignored him as he was trying to get up. Shame on her.

Helio and Julianne, what fun to watch. They deserved higher scores on their first dance. Were there some foot work problems? Probably, but they blew away the audiance with both dances. The judges have picked their favorite from what I can see by their scoring. Their freestyle was really something and Helio really had a workout with all those lifts and fancy things. Shame of Karianne for expecting them to be flawless in the lifts - they weren't allowed to do them all season, and then she expects total perfection from the only inexperienced male dancer left. But I hope it is Helio and Julianne winning the "coveted ballroom trophy."

We just have to endure 2 hours of fluff junk tonight to get to the end. Hard to believe time has flown by so fast this time around and now it is the final show of this set.

I really hope Julianne, oops I mean Helio, wins this thing.

Scary Spice.. who cares?

Marie.. ha ha ha ha ha! I was just in the break room here at work and the Fox news anchors were showing a clip of the doll dance and were not pulling ANY punches!

The good news is that ABC/the producers of the show can manipulate the results to ensure Marie doesn't win. If she does win, the show has no integrity.

Seriously: the freestyle dances where a lap dance, a WTF doll dance, and what Helio and Julianne brought to the table. Can there really be any question on who should win?

I hope J&H win and they bring Julianne back yet again. Maybe they'll pair hew up with someone like... I don't know... can't think of anyone.

I'll say it again: Julianne... Julianne... oh to be fifteen years younger. Alas, I'd STILL be older than her. (not by much)

OK, my take on last night's The Hills...

I think Spencer's sister showed-up just to be on TV. She is as much of a tool as he is.

I think Heidi might be slowly coming out from under Spencer's spell... thank God.

Meanwhile, Audrina caught Justin-Bobby kissing some other girl. Yes she as said that their relationship has been over in the past, but it looks like it might stick this time.

Marie's farce of a dance doesn't really even deserve comment.

Mel and Maks were not nearly as good as they have been in the past and I think the judges gifted them with high scores based on the past instead of the dances this night.

Helio and Julianne were robbed by the judges. They should have gotten all 10s for their freestyle dance. What an improvement Helio has made during this show... starting out barely able to walk across the dance floor to gliding and dancing like a pro.

It's been obvious from the beginning that either the Spice Girl or the Cheetah Girl were supposed to win this thing and since Mel is the only one left of the two she'll win because that's what the producers want. I don't think they would let Marie win even if she gets the most votes because that would make the whole show look rediculous.

I want Helio to win but I'm afraid Mel B has it all gift wrapped by the producers!

I think if it were up to the Producers it would be Mel and Maks bc they want a female to win, and also bc of the Spice Girls Reunion tour, shes the more famous one at the moment.

But, I do not think the producers will manipulate it, unless it is Marie.

I felt badly for Marie.
She really took a risk, which did not pay off at all.
But she should get props for what she has done, and that is entertain us all season long.
And overcoming adversities in her personal life, still doing it with a smile and very positive energy.

I think Helio and Julianne will win.

Though I did think Helio (in both dances) seemed kind of stiff last night.
He has been better.

Mel and Maks, I think have been better too.

HD, pls give us an update on the Feb Big Brother. Is it coming or not?
