Dancing With The Stars: Almost Perfection

| | Comments (9)

Last night's Dancing With The Stars was absolutely amazing! Fun from start to finish, it was one of those shows that I actually wished had gone on for two or three hours. The pairs were able to pick the dances they wanted to dance to in both ballroom and Latin rounds and let's just say that the competition was fierce!

Marie & Jonathan were the first couple to dance and they really brought it with their quick step. Their choice of dancing to Judy Garland's "Good Morning" was great as well. As much as I hate to admit it, I actually liked it (don't say it). The judges loved it too and gave them a 29 out of 30. Their second dance though, a mambo, I didn't like quite as much and neither did the judges. They said she missed her steps a few times but that overall it was still entertaining. They received a 27 for their mambo for a total of 56 out of 60 on the night.

Mel & Maks were the second couple to dance and all I can say is they were absolutely perfect. Their first dance, a Viennese Waltz set to Queen's "Somebody To Love", was stunning. My mouth was hanging open after she did those splits across the dance floor and I giggled to myself at the end when she went to peck him on the mouth and he turned his head at the last second so that her lips landed on his cheek. The judges thought it was precise, sexy, and fabulous. They scored the first perfect score of the evening with a 30 and then followed it up with their paso doble. Mel's use of the whip in this sexy little number set to The Rolling Stones' "Satisfaction" was very satisfying indeed and even caused Len to tell Mel she could use the whip on him if he misbehaved. They received another perfect score and ended the night with the perfect score of 60.

Jennie & Derek danced a tango for their first dance set to a crazy fast rock song. It was a weird musical choice most definitely. While it was a good dance, it was nothing that would blow your socks off. Carrie Ann said she didn't feel the chemistry between the two of them because Jennie was so focused on her dancing. They received a 28 out of 30 for that dance. Their second dance of the night was a cha-cha-cha set to "Mustang Sally" and was much better than their first dance. It was sexy and had great spins. Len remarked on how far Jennie had come since the beginning of the season and thought the dance was fantastic. Bruno called her yummy! How funny! They received a perfect score of 30 for this dance and wound up with a 58 out of 60 on the night.

Helio & Julianne were the last couple to dance in both rounds. Their first dance was a fox trot to Dean Martin's "Aint That A Kick In The Head" and was beyond cute. I loved the song, loved the dance, and loved her dress. After the judges gave their kudos and kidded Helio about his leprechaun green outfit, they were awarded a perfect score of 30. Their second dance was a cha-cha-cha and was way better than Jennie & Derek's. Set to "Love Rollercoaster", it was a freaking fantastic dance! Now that is a last dance. The judges thought it was wonderful and Len proclaimed them the standout couple of the night. They received another perfect score of 30 to end the night with a perfect score of 60.

I won't even begin to guess who's going to go home tonight but I think it should be Marie. If not Marie (because of her fans), then it will probably be Jennie. I just hope that Mel and Helio don't go. I want to see those two in the finale next week.

What did you think about the show and their routines? Do you feel comfortable saying who you think will be going home?

I thought it was a really good show last night. And this time, most of the 10s were actually deserved. (I did think it was funny at the end when Tom apologized to paddles 0 through 8 for no air time - it just emphasized how little the judges scores have to do with anything because they're always so close!)

I agree Marie should go home, but I'm betting Jenny will. Marie's fan base (and Donny's relentless shilling for her) will keep her in - heck, it may even win her the competition.

Does anyone else think it's not quite right that Donny is the "exclusive" Dancing with the Stars correspondent for Entertainment Tonight? It's not like he's even pretending to be unbiased. It just turns every show into yet another commercial for Marie. Bleh.

Yes, Marie should go but won't because of fans and bro. Donny. Don't think its right that he is connected to this show, sure makes it prejudicial. Hate to see my gal Jennie go, but afraid she is out tonite and so will end my voting for the year. Really believe Marie Osmond will win this year.....so sad. Geaux LSU!

Julianne...Julianne... oh to be fifteen year younger.

If Julianne wins it again this season will she be back next?

OK, it just occured to me that this site does not cover 'The Hills' at all.

Yes, my wife and I have a combined age of over 70 and yes we watch the Hills mainly because we HATE Spencer's GUTS and can't wait for Heidi to get over her daddy issues, open her eyes, and dump that son-of-a-bitch.

Hey EricC, I don't cover The Hills here except in my Reality in Review posts. But yeah, I haven't missed a show so far in any of the seasons and I absolutely can't stand Spencer. Heidi's such a dumbass for being with him. I have no idea what in the world she sees in that loser.

Heres my theory on DTWS.
Ever notice how the celebs on DTWS all always seem so nice and likeable?
Like even if you start out not really caring for someone in the beginning, by the end you grow to love em. (for me that person is Mel B but everyone's is different)

Yet, at the same time we can always easily find multiple people to hate on all the other reality shows (Survivor, Big Brother, Apprentice, Bachelor.....)

My theory is this.
Dancing is good clean fun.
It brings out the childlike innocence and happiness, even in the manliest of men like Emmitt Smith, Jerry Rice etc....

THis show really makes these people better people (at least for the time they are on the show)

Whereas the other shows bring out the worst in ppl, and thats why we easily dislike them.

That is why they dislike each other on the other reality shows.
On DTWS, ever notice how they all root for each other and geniunely are sad when someone leaves?

Just my 2 cents...

Loved last nights show.

My new fave is Mel B and Maks.
I have grown to like her alot, and also Maks and her playful relationship.
THeir Viennese Waltz was gorgeous.
Of course Helio is great too, and he really did come from no dance experience.

I really enjoy watching Jennie after she nails her dance.
She is just so happy.

I want Marie to go tonight but I know she won't. I'm just "bubblied" to death by her.

I want Jenny to win but she won't because she'll go tonight instead of Marie. Jenny has improved the most and she needs the win to give her confidence.

If the final is between Mel and Helio I want Helio to win because I don't think it is fair that Mel has been trianed as a dancer before. It's not fair to have amateurs and prfessionals compete. So Helio it is!

Tamara, you make a good point about the "likeable" factor on DWTS. There have been people that annoyed me, or that I wished would go, but no one you don't like. I think it's a combination of the fun and elegance and general wholesomeness of dancing (even when steamy, it's not skanky), as well as the fact that no competitor can gain anything by trying to sabotage someone else. They're not really "against" the other people, they're just "for" themselves. It's just them doing their best, and if it's good enough, so be it.

That's what I liked so much about Amazing Race at the beginning. Each team just tried their best, and didn't mess with the others. It's still mostly like that, but it's gotten a little more back-stabbing (I blame Romber!).

I bet you're second-guessing your decision to stop doing the Bachelor after the "Kelly Taylor" ending, huh?

(Kelly Taylor ending= Beverly Hills 90210, Kelly had to choose between Dylan and Brandon, and ended up saying "I choose me" and dumped them both...)
