Dancing With The Stars: A Snoozer Of A Results Show

| | Comments (11) | TrackBacks (0)

This week's Dancing With The Stars results show began with sad news. Tom and Samantha informed the viewing audience that Marie Osmond was not present for the show because her father passed away early that morning. Then they told us that Marie & Jonathan were safe to dance for another week! Now let's get on with the show that's thirty minutes tooooo long. (Those are my words - not Tom and Samantha's.)

This results show was B-O-R-I-N-G. Personally, I'm trying to figure out how they book their big performers. We were supposed to have seen Gloria Estefan (remember she couldn't be there because her mother became critically ill) and then we got J-Lo's pre-taped performance (she couldn't perform live because her grandmother passed away). Last week we got Barry Manilow (me makes gagging sound) and then this week we get LeAnn Rimes. How many times is that girl woman going to whore herself out singing that ten-year-old song that was played too much to begin with (thanks to Trisha Yearwood also for that) semi-hit 'How Do I Live'? Instead of their performers getting better each week, they're getting worse. I can only imagine who they're going to drag up next. Who has a CD coming out next week?

The NYC-based hip-hop Rock Steady Group was a perfect fit with Leann's performances don't you think? Yes, it was cool to watch but come on already. If you're going to have that kind of dance group performing couldn't you try to find a hip-hop group or singer to perform also? Stop throwing tomatoes at me! I know Leann's second song 'Nothing Better To Do' was "edgier" but puh-lease. I guess if she hadn't have sang that played out dinosaur I would not have had a problem.

The best parts of the whole night (besides who went home but I'm getting there) were the return of the Dance Center skits. I love Kenny Mayne and he looked so pretty in his green eyeshadow. I couldn't keep my eyes off of his and Jerry Rice's shiny shirts -- which were open at the chest. Hopefully that skit was taped before Monday so that no writers were hurt in the process.

Besides Marie & Jonathan, Cameron & Edyta are safe! Mel & Maks are safe! Helio & Julianne are safe! Jennie & Derek and Jane & Tony are in the bottom two. I was biting my lip just waiting to see who would go home. Surely America wouldn't screw up voting two weeks in a row. But you know, stranger things have happened. I wonder what Sanjaya is doing nowadays. Jane & Tony are going home! Boo-yah! Finally!

Next week, the couples will have to perform two new dances again. Who do you want to go home next week? Would it break your heart if they shortened the results show to 30 minutes?

I've fallen behind on DWTS this season, but I will say the patriarch of the Osmond clan dying is a bigger deal than the DWTS results show.

There was supposed to be a reunion of "over 100 Osmonds" this Friday on Oprah, but it looks like that most likely will not happen given the sudden death of George.

I agree the show was WAY too long, but don't expect it to shorten any time soon. All the networks are trying to pad their schedules by extending the reality shows (which don't use WGA writers) so they don't have to show too many reruns of their scripted shows (which do use WGA writers). Biggest Loser was plumped up (pun intended) to two hours last night as well. Ugh. These folks better agree on a new contract soon!

As for LeAnn Rimes, I wish she's stop singing "How Do I Live" - Trisha Yearwood's version is 100 times better :) And don't you go dissing on Barry! Yes, he's may be slightly over-botoxed these days, but he's still my guy :)

My guess is that Marie was really in the bottom two, but because of her personal situation, they didn't want to point that out. Sorry to see Jane go, since she does bring some class to the show, but even I have to admit she deserved it.

Kenny Mayne's eye shadow made the show!

Frankly, there is so much "filler" in the results show, that I agree it would be better at a half hour. Do I think that will happen, nope, they get too high of ratings to go that route, plus with the writers strike... well you know the rest. And frankly, I agree with the writers, they have been under appreciated for way too long. The Actors, producers, film crew, etc wouldn't be much without the story lines and scripts.

Sad to see Jane go, but it was time. You can only do the same - elegant - so many times before it becomes apparent - she was a one trick pony.

I suspect as another person commented, that Marie was in the bottom 2 - this was the first time, they changed the elimination and kept saying over and over, the last 2 standing were not necessarily the bottom 2. Reading between the lines - it was Jane and Marie IMO.

I'm so glad Jenny was safe. She is by far the most improved dancer and I would love to see her win over Mel who is semi professional.

I'm sad to hear about Marie's Dad passing but it was wonderful that he got to see her do the "old Army jive" dance. Her parents supported themselves by dancing like that when they were first married and he got to see her do it for him. How wonderful! I think it is time for her to go next but I'm glad she was around long enough to accomplish that for him.

I would love love love to see the results show shortened and for them to get rid of the cheesy acts. I loved the comedy skit last night but that probably won't happen again because of the writer's strike unless they write their own material and don't belong to the union which is highly unlikely.

At the risk of having my reality tv fan card revoked, I must confess that I tape the results shows and, for the most part, fast forward through them.

They've done this in previous seasons -- when it gets down to the last few couples, they don't tell you who's in the bottom two. I imagine they think it adds to the suspense for the viewers (yawn).

I think Cameron or Mel will go next week. Nothing to do with their dancing ability; it's all about the fan base now.

I just saw this on realitytvworld.com:
CBS is reportedly preparing to bring Big Brother back as early as February due to the recent Writers Guild of America strike. In addition, Variety reported there's also "been buzz" that the Big Brother installment CBS is preparing could be a celebrity edition -- a long-rumored concept that CBS president and CEO Les Moonves first suggested in 2002, a year after the U.K. begun airing its annual Celebrity Big Brother installments in 2001.

Sorry, this has nothing to do with DWTS, but I had to share!

Yeah, somebody posted about it on Monday here. Personally, I hope it doesn't happen. -HD

HD I'm surprised at you!!! I thought you would be all over an extra BB in Feb? Celeb or not. Lets face it, the celebs they are going to get are going to be mostly ppl we have never heard of or have not seen in a long time, so its not too different from the aspiring actor wannabes we get on the real BB.
Bring it on!
I would love to see BB in Feb.

OK so back to DTWS:
The first thing I said about the fact that there was no bottom 2, was that Marie was in it,and they didnt want to do that with her father dying.
That was classy of DTWS.

I also TIVO the results show and FF thru it past all the filler.
As a matter of fact, I usually watch another show during DTWS from my TIVO, like last night I watched my alltime fave Nip/Tuck,and then quickly went thru DTWS results.

Results DTWS can seriously be watched in 20 min, thats all you need.

I think Jane knew she was going.
Shes a class act.

I would love to see Jennie in the finals but I have a feeling its going to be Mel and Helio.
If so, I think Helio will win.

The problem with a Celebrity Big Brother is that is would be 'D' list celebrities like Gary Coleman, Danice Dickinson, Adrian Curry, and Christopher Knight... oh wait that's already been done... The Sureal Life!

Let's not forget how TERRIBLE Celebrity Mole was... The Mole was a great show and they ruined it with the Celecbrity version.

Here's an idea... how about a Big Brother / Kid Nation hybrid!

A bunch of kids in Bonanza City, but in real time.

Remember Paradise Hotel from the summer of 2003? Looks like it's coming back as well.

Oh yeah! glad to see Miss Jane exit the show. It was sad about Marie's dad, but honestly Marie needs to exit SOON now. Just hoping Jennie Garth makes it. My fingers are soooo tired from voting each week for that girl, but she really has tried so hard and deserves the win! This is HD, a 30 min. show and I tend to "nap" during 30 mins. of this show. Lord please, can some one tell Samantha that she needs to cover "them" up. Have a good weekend. GEAUX LSU....

I got to admit that the results show is so boring, I stopped watching altogether. I think that a Celebrity Big Brother would be alright, since I heard that the UK is not doing one this year. Their show only lasted for about a month, though. I think that it would be better to do two regular big brothers this season, both totally with strangers. They could do one big brother using the current US model, with the HOH making nominations, and housemates voting. Then they could do a version like the one in the UK, but using some of their better tasks. If they use some of the twists, and tasks that have gone over well in other countries, the original version would work well. In their version, each housemate nominates two people. The whole house competes for their food budget. Or maybe they could show us past seasons from other countries, which are difficult to get ahold of in the US.
