Dancing With The Stars: Sabrina Was Sanjayad Times Two

This week's Dancing With the Stars results show was the worst show of the entire season by far. It made me remember why I quit watching American Idol last season. Seriously, I understand stars having fans but when do they become so blind that they can't see the forest from the trees?

To say that Sabrina & Mark being eliminated this week is a shock would be a gross understatement. It is true that they didn't have their greatest night of dancing on Monday evening but going into the results show they were tied for 5th place with Cameron & Edyta. (Jane & Tony and Marie & Jonathan were ranked last and next-to-last place by the way.) However, Sabrina & Mark have danced their behinds off all season long so far and it's showed. They've been consistently ranked at the top, with harder dances and better routines might I add, while Jane and Marie and their partners have been given the easier dances complete with less complicated choreography that was designed to suit their now glaringly obvious lack of abilities.

Before I get jumped on too badly, I admit that Sabrina has much more dance experience than the other contestants have or have had. Some even say that she should never have been allowed to be on the show because of this. I also know that the results come down to the fans actually spending their time voting via phone and email. Simply put, Sabrina's fans didn't vote.

But how could anybody really think that Marie Osmond and Jane Seymour are better dancers than Sabrina? That just boggles my mind. The judges didn't think so on Monday night and they haven't thought so all season long. I realize the season is at the point where the wheat has to be separated from the chaff but come on already! Marie and Jane are obviously not the wheat and Sabrina is not the chaff.

To have both Marie and Jane Seymour safe from elimination is ludicrous! If both of them don't dance at the same level as the remaining competitors next week and still make it through then I will proclaim the show rigged -- just as I thought American Idol was last season when Sanjaya kept making it through week after awful week.

I don't have anything against either of these ladies -- I really don't. But let's call a spade a spade. They're not at the same level as the other dancers now and I don't think they will be next week either. Their fans should let them go gracefully instead of making them the Sanjaya of DWTS. Neither Marie nor Jane strike me as the type of woman that would want that.

What do you think about Sabrina leaving ahead of Marie and Jane? Deserved or not?

HD...I agree that it should have been Jane and Marie in the bottom two tonight. Neither one of them measured up to the others last night with their dances. And, even though there was something about Sabrina that bothered me (as I said earlier in your previous post about last night's show), I don't think she deserved to go tonight. You're right...she's got the background, but so did Mario when he was on. But you're also right that she and her partner danced their butts off each week!

This show is definitely full of surprises and shocks! Guess we'll have to wait and see what happens from this point on!

I was very surprised that Sabrina was voted off but she is a professionally trained dancer. I think that the viewers have finally looked at this competition how it was intended to be .......for amateurs.

We'll here's the numbers for the judges scores
(the percentages are calculated based on the total number of points scored remember, and the total was 180 Monday)

Jane 22/180- 12.22%
Marie 23/180- 12.78%
Sabrina 25/180- 13.89%

I can actually see Jane and Marie's fanbases being large enough to offset that deficit, combined with the fact Sabrina isn't as well known as most of the others-and some people just vote for others to tick off the judges and producers by getting rid of their "chosen one", as Sabrina seemed to be. Also remember that a lot of fans of the show are older women-so they might have wanted to keep the people closer to their age in Marie and Jane (though with this backlash I suspect both will be dinged next week by the judges in an effort to get one of them off). I think with Sabrina gone, you're most likely looking at a final 3 of Jennie, Mel, and Helio (with Jane or Marie as a possible spoiler)

The problem is, this isn't a competition for the "best" dancer. If it were, the judges would be the only ones whose votes count.

This is more like So You Think You Can Dance, where it's a combination of good dancers and popular dancers. At least there, they keep saying it's a contest for America's Favorite Dancer.

That said, Sabrina isn't near the top of my list because although she dances with very good technical proficiency, I just don't get the emotional side of dancing from her. So her dancing doesn't appeal to me the same way that the others (including Jane and Marie) do.

Of course, I don't care enough about any of them to vote! Only person I ever voted for in this show was Emmitt - I just loved him :)

Has anyone ever heard of Sabrina or a Cheetah Girl before this show?
Maybe I am not seeing it bc I dont have kids so I know nothing about the Cheetah Girls, but to me, I would be surprised that Sabrina would have more (voting) fans then Marie Osmond.

In DTWS, I enjoy seeing amateurs grow and excel in their dancing much more than someone who makes a living off of it or was trained.

Take Jennie and Cameron, as an example.
They have no dance background and do not do this for a living.
Both started off OK.
Now they have grown into being amazing.

THATS what this show is all about.

The judges said Sabrina was the most consistent.

Well, hmmmm, isnt that due to that she already is comfortable with dance, and does it for a living and has been trained in it?

I think people want to root for the underdogs, like someone like Jennie who obviously is not comfortable doing this, yet she somehow pulls it off and really excells!

Sabrina you expect to be good.
So maybe when she slips, even just a little, people have little tolerance?

I was one of those who voted for Emmett, over Mario for that very reason.
I liked both, but it was much more fun to root for the football player who never did this before then someone who has been dance trained.

This show is not a serious competition like American Idol where the contestants are competing in something they have been doing forever, and are trying to make a career out of.

This show is about celebs who dont do this normally, learning to dance and growing and getting better.
Not about someone who already has danced for a living.

That said. I too, was still shocked to see Sabrina go.
And I do think Jane and Marie need to go before the rest of who is left.

I agree totally with what Tamara said. The night before in my comments I did indicate I thought that Sabrina had an unfair advantage. That being said, they allowed her to compete on the show, so... advantage or not, she should have been judged on her dancing. I suspect so many viewers figured she was safe, that they tossed their votes to others they liked. Hence we see Sabrina have her last night. You could tell she and her partner had gotten very close, and I thought it was really nice the way the other dancers closed around them in a protective shield. I don't think she should have gone.

I do think that Jane or Marie should have, but we will just have to wait and see. At least it is not boring or predictable this year!

My take is that Sabrina does not have the same voter base as say Marie Osmond. Let's face it, Marie has what 8 brothers and all their families plus her own 8 children and their friends. 7 votes a phone in a family where there are probably more phones than one cares to know leads up to a lot of votes for someone who dances like she has lead in her legs.

Sabrina has outshone all other contestants not only as a dancer but she is just a vibrant and likable person.

I think that Sabrina was allowed to be on the show because Disney owns both the Cheetah Girls and DWTS and they probably thought it would bring a whole new audience to the DWTS program. I agree with all the above comments about it being unfair that Sabrina was allowed to be a contestant since she has had dance training. I also really enjoy seeing the contestants like Jenny and Cameron who have never danced before and are doing really well.

One question though... does Mel B have any dance training as a Spice Girl? If not then she is just a natural talent and deserves to win but if she has been trained then I hope she goes too.

I think my favorite is Cameron because of two things... he has really improved so much and I know how crippling the Perthes Disease that he had a child can be. His hips are pretty much fused now in adulthood and yet he is dancing so well. I just have to cheer and cheer for him. And no, I've never seen him on his Soap Opera so I'm not a fan from that.

I was shocked to say the least!!! I thought for sure when they had the bottom two, my fav (Cameron) was out the door.

I personally don't think Sabrina, Mel B, Drew, and persons that dance for a living, belong on the show, but it has been allowed, so be it.. That said, Sabrina was robbed. She by far, has shinned above the rest.. My favorites from day one have been, Cameron, Helio and Jenny, so her leaving will make it easier on them. But still, the poor girl was good and didn't deserve to go home before Jane, Marie and maybe Jenny!

Voting is very screwed up. My God, look how long Master P, Jerry Springer and John Rats??, (Cliff, from Cheers, can't think of his name) Billy Ray and Clyde lasted! Get some idoits with nothing better to do than tie up their computers with voting, and this happens. There was an entire black college voting for Master P, any and every way they could, just to see how long they could keep him on!! He was by far the worst EVER!

For the show to last any amount of time, something needs to change.. But it won't!!
