Reality In Review: Week Of October 21, 2007
Were you too busy base jumping, traveling around the world, or getting hitched last week to be able to keep up with all things related to reality? Then you're in the right place.
CBS finally came out and issued their own statement regarding the Big Brother 8 POV-related debacle with "America's Player" contestant Eric Stein. I don't buy their excuse that there was no time for viewers to vote on whether he could use the Power of Veto or not. There was time for viewers to vote for who he should target for nomination in the Fast Forward live show. So why couldn't Julie Chen have just come out and told the viewing audience that he wouldn't be able to use it to begin with? The BB producers just didn't want to deal with it -- that's why. Why else do you think he was the announcer for the POV competitions all those times?
In more Big Brother news; Big Brother Africa, Endemol, and Nigeria's National Broadcasting Commission are in the hot seat regarding the constant "orgy of nudity" being broadcast over the airwaves. Big Brother Australia is taking a different turn in preparation for their next season of voyeuristic fare. Interested in being a housemate for the next season of Big Brother UK? Open audition dates have been announced and will begin in Manchester, England on November 24th.
Along with the Dancing With the Stars fainting Marie coverage, long-time mega blogger and latest celebrity to leave DWTS Mark Cuban wrote about what a great experience it was being on the show. Meanwhile, Jane Seymour wrote on her blog about what she thought of Carrie Ann's pointing out that her foot came off the ground. Mel B wrote how happy she was with the judges' comments on the Spice Girls blog and Tom Bergeron joked about the other dancing pairs coming up with their own theatrical stunts.
How would you like to tap into your inner ballroom dancing self? On October 30th, you can. Well, that's if you have one of the still hard-to-find Nintendo Wii gaming systems. If you're still rocking the PlayStation 2, you'll have to wait until November 13th to snag your copy of the Dancing With the Stars video game. In what could also be fun, Hell's Kitchen will be going gaming next year. Who wouldn't want Gordon Ramsay breathing down your neck talking nasty to you?
CBS canceled that horrible show Viva Laughlin and is bringing us The Amazing Race sooner rather than later. Yay! (Why oh why did that "Viva Viagra" commercial have to come on at the same moment I'm typing this?) The new season of The Amazing Race starts Sunday, November 4th.
In the "I Can't Believe These Will Be Reality Shows" category, filming will begin on October 30th on a reality TV show revolving around the daily life of Dina Lohan. Yes -- Lindsay Lohan's mother. Christopher Knight and Adrianne Curry's "docu-reality" where they do Russia will air on December 2nd. The Lifetime Television network wants to cover California's OC partying scene with It's My Party. The show's casting producer, Andy Hirsch, compares it to MTV's My Super Sweet 16 except with grownups.
How about some interviews with the latest reality TV losers? Ebony, the girl who quit America's Next Top Model 9, explains why she made her decision to leave. The latest castaway booted from Survivor, Sherea, still doesn't like Jean-Robert. Jesse & Erin from Beauty and the Geek would have picked each other if they were given the chance. The absolute best interview of the week belongs to Hillary regarding her time on The Bachelor. She seems like a really funny gal!
Remember the model that fell through the runway? It was none other than The Bachelor 7's Sarah Welch. She explains what happened here. Paula Abdul didn't like how she was edited on Hey Paula so she says she'll never make another reality TV show. Just in case you were unsure about The Hills being scripted, please read this.
Now let's fast forward through the rest of the reality news of the week. Vincent Margera's lawyer said he groped those two teenaged girls to entertain his audience. Paris Hilton's trip to Rwanda was never meant for reality TV. Amy Finley, latest winner of The Next Food Network Star, has been keeping busy. Tom Colicchio's restaurant, Craft, landed the Vanity Fair Oscar party.
Lauren Conrad's ex, Jason Wahler, is serving his time. Sharon Osbourne has apologized for storming off The X Factor and wants her job back. Gordon Ramsay plans to semi-retire at age 50. Heidi Klum and Seal are extremely happy. Zayra from Rockstar: Supernova is now a member of Pretty Baby. Tommy Lee would never do "a stupid show" like Rock of Love. Jose Canseco is having no luck with his reality TV show No Way, Jose. If you're upset that you missed MTV's premiere of Making Menudo you can watch it here.
Until next time ladies and gents! Have a fantabulous week!

While the BBC article that announced the Big Brother UK auditions for Season 9 helpfully did NOT inform anyone as to where they could apply to audition... I have done some searching and on my fav site (oh, where else??) i have found some audition details - yay! Check it out - StarNow is running casting calls for both the US BB and the UK one - something for everyone, horrah :-)

I think that the whole Sharon Osbourne thing was just a publicity stunt. It was all over two of her contestants being in the bottom two.
HI HD
I finally got around to watching the The NExt Great American Band. I loved it! Im rooting for the Rockets. Also, the one thing I didnt like and I agree with the judges is I cant remember there name but it was the 12 yr old boy with his shirt off? I dont think it was appropriate. I cant believe there parents let them do that. I do wish it was on a diffrent night though.
Have you watched Phenomenon? Well dont lol. Its reality with magic. I like magic but im not sure you can call what they do magic
Nope Shawn! I haven't watched Phenomenon but some of the girls at work did. They said it sucked so I'm glad I didn't waste my time....LOL
