Fishing With Birds

Ni hao!

Was it just me or was Courtney looking extremely emaciated on last night's episode of Survivor? I'm really beginning to worry about her. I couldn't stop staring at her bones every single time she was shown onscreen. It's no wonder she didn't like JR raising his voice at her - she's likely to fall right over from the vibrations in his voice.

Day 10 began with Courtney and JR at the Fei Long camp in a tiff and with Sherea and Dave at the Zhan Hu camp getting into a full-blown argument. Zhan Hu's rice had gone moldy and Sherea was trying to pull the good parts of the rice out. Of course, Dave had to open his big mouth about it. After their yelling match, Sherea stirred the pot herself by taking Dave's shells (he'd been saving them to take home to his mother) and going off to throw them away after Dave told her not to. In the end, the shells were saved and Sherea came off looking like a bigger ass than Dave.

After both teams receive tree mail saying it was important for them to stick together so that they might eat the next day, they trekked over to the tribal council temple for a reward challenge that night. A very cool reward challenge. Using graduated sets of giant chopsticks two members from each team must carry a fireball across the course and drop it into a chute where it will then roll into a wok and ignite fireworks. The reward? A fisherman and his family will come to the winning team's camp to teach them how to fish, bring spices and vegetables for them, and help them make a meal. Oh, and they also get to kidnap someone.

Fei Long won the reward and they decided to kidnap Dave. The next morning (day 11), Dave said he felt like he was on vacation and was on a spy mission for himself and nobody else. Dave went off to open the scroll that Jeffypop had given him and decided that Todd is the person he could trust the most on Fei Long. Dave gave Todd the clue! Todd said he'd return the favor later if he was kidnapped. Todd had better find the immunity idol with all of the clues he now has.

Over at Zhan Hu, they're all laying around talking about how Dave seemed a little too happy to be kidnapped. Sherea was especially glad they took Dave because now she can lay around and do nothing without fear of being called out. It didn't stop her fellow tribe members to talk about how lazy she was behind her back though.

The fishing family arrives over at Fei Long and can you believe it? JR can speak Mandarin Chinese! The others were jealous that he could communicate with the family but what could they do? Aaron and Denise got to go off with the fisherman and they learned how to fish using birds. The birds' necks were tied tightly so that they couldn't swallow the fish that they dove into the water to catch. After catching them, they'd come back into the boat and spit the fish back out. Very cool. Using that catch, dinner was made at camp and everybody loved it.

The immunity challenge was a simple variation on an old competition. Competitors had to dress in traditional Chinese armor and try to smash vases across from them but the team of two across from them would be trying to block their throws. Each side had three shots and whichever team broke the most vases in three rounds would win immunity. What was up with those weird slow motion edits when a vase was about to be broken? Fei long wins immunity!

It's Day 12 and we know what's going to happen on this day. Now back at Zhan Hu, Dave thought it felt strange to be 'home'. It's going to be between Dave and Sherea leaving at tribal council. Their reasoning? Dave works hard but is annoying. Sherea is nice but lazy.

At tribal council, the tribe thinks they did just fine without Dave while he was over at Fei Long. Sherea defends her laziness by saying how she conserves her energy for the challenges. Whatever. It's time to vote and none of them were shown to us. That's never a good thing for somebody. First vote is for Dave. Second vote is for Sherea. Third vote is for Dave. Fourth vote is for Dave. Now why didn't Jeff stop right there because it was obvious that Dave would be going home. The fifth and final vote is for Dave. Adios Dave!

Next week, Jaime and Eric explore new territory (he's a virgin). A twist turns the game on its head.

Hmmmm, I wonder what the twist is and if it's even a good one. Eric's a virgin? OK. Todd is in the catbird set I tell ya. Having all of the clues and not finding the immunity idol would be beyond stupendously stupid on his part. I like him though and hopes he finds it.

What are your thoughts on last night's show?

Sherea annoys me more than Dave. She can't justify her laziness, especially since that team doesn't have the best track record for winning challenges. I wanted her gone from the beginning-- just tired of looking at her underwear. And if she's one of the "Christians" then "Physician heal thyself". What Christ centered, elementary school teacher walks around in her underwear with boobies and butt cheeks having out and screaming and acting vindictive? Hope she's next.

I agree with your comment on Courtney. She looks appalling. Nothing else to say about that. Eric a "virgin", how refreshing. That's the kind of man I want for my daughter (of course I expect her to remain a virgin also). What a surprise from JR. Who would have thought? You go JR. Dave just didn't watch the show enough to know that survivors have a love hate relationship with leadership. Kiss of death eventually.

What's with all these people trusting Todd? I don't know if anybody can find the immunity idol by theirselves. The only person who has found it by themselves has been Yul, and we all know how smart he was. What's interesting to me is that two out of the three people kidnapped so far has been voted off. This is actually a good strategy. In fact, there is only one person on each team that even knows there is a hidden immunity idol. Todd has a tremendous advantage at this stage.

I was glad to see Dave go. Nobody wants to be condescended to, and Dave was very condescending. The others will now have to figure out how to do things for themselves, but I think that's a good thing. Sherea needs to figure out that if she doesn't do any work at camp, the rest of her tribe won't have enough energy left to compete in the challenges.

I wonder if the twist will change the tribes? I wish that when they use this twist that they would even out the tribes, but they haven't in the past.

I was surprised to see James acting all offended because JR had translated something. It sounds like JR better hope for another tribe if there is a tribe change. So far I don't see anybody that looks like they're dominating the game, or that they're clear favorites. It's interesting, though, that JR is the only one who has figured out Todd's number. JR's big mistake was letting Todd know that. I think that although James is dominating in the challenges, people will try to get him out because he's too great a threat when the tribe's merge. He was a favorite of mine, but I think I'm leaning more towards Aaron now.

I thought Dave's farwell comments were very telling about the kind of person he is. Only a little willing to admit his faults...very self-righteous.

I don't know why exactly but I'm rooting for Todd.

Eric's a virgin?? Refreshing is darn right! Big kudos to him! Question is...is he a virgin because he has always had that as a goal, or because of lack of opportunity? He's good looking, so I'm gonna go for the former!

I'm so glad they have figured out that Dave was a problem. First he fought with Ashley, now he was fighting with Sherea. What maturity Frosti showed by stepping in and seeking to smooth it over.

I can't believe Dave was so happy to be kidnapped. Sure it's a break and you get food and all, but it's an opportunity for your tribe to know how great it would be without you!

I was shocked as you were, HD, that Mandarin started to come out of J-R's mouth. He always seemed a little too insensitive to have had real exposure with other cultures.

I was excited to see Jaimie knock down two vases, even though I was glad her team lost so they could get rid of Dave. I'm excited about the possible showmance between her and Erik...they're so cute! I'm rooting for him that much more now that it's been revealed he's a virgin!

I love that it hasn't really gotten out about the immunity idol. Todd's smart enough not to mention it exists, and Jaimie seems like she'll keep mum too. It was funny to see Dave's face when he found out that he had the clue...did he not realize he wouldn't get to see it?

In China this fall...
JR has some tricks up his sleeve,
Jamie's goodwill we all can't believe,
Aaron and James have muscles on muscles,
Fragile Peh-Gee has got in some tussles,
Todd plus Amanda equals some drama,
Denise is a sweet but tough momma,
Frosti dodges camera after camera,
The s're wearing only their bra,
Courtney's off bingin' and purgin'
Erik, who's gorgous, is virgin.
Dave's mouth always snapping,
Sherea's just napping,
Welcome, Survivor 15!

Gee what a coincidence... JR can speak Mandarin! What a surprise. Ya think maybe that would have come out during the application and interview process!?!? Obviously the producers have chosen who they want to give a big advantage to. Let's all see how far he gets in the game shall we? Can I hear the word "Donatos" whispering in the wind?

Courtney looks like the American version of the French woman who is a 65 lb anorexic and who has posed for nude billboards that are up all over Europe, trying to show young kids what anorexia can do to you. Courtney is obviously nearing the breaking point if she hasn't enough strength to swing either a sword or the throwing stones. I think we will see her being carried out on a stretcher. Knowing how much weight normal people lose during that game, it nears malpractice for the show's medical staff to allow her to continue to participate.

I really liked that it was a night reward challenge -- very different and a good challenge to boot! The reward was also awesome.

HD, I know you commented on Courtney being emaciated, but it showed even more with her wearing that armor (if that's possible). I was hoping the armor wouldn't knock her over.

And, Sherea, there's no use using the argument that you are saving your strength for challenges, when your team is always losing them! Next to go from Zhan Hu, I'm afraid.

I am becoming immensely impressed with both JR and Todd, for different reasons.

Does anyone know what has happened to Survivor Live this year? Do anyone else think it's funny that there haven't been any morning-after interviews on The Early Show? Could the twist be that people are coming back into the game??

Did anyone else think it was strange that the tribe sat out Courtney for a non-physical challenge? They would have been in trouble again at the immunity challenge if she had to participate singly as she did last week when her tribe lost solely on her performance.
