Dancing With The Stars: A Hodgepodge Of Dances

Last night's Dancing With the Stars was alot of fun! Instead of the couples stepping to just one of two assigned types of dance, it was a nice little combo of everything. From the mambo to the samba to the cha-cha-cha it was definitely a great night to watch -- if you could keep your eyes off of Samantha's swollen bust and her hideous hair.

First up was Sabrina & Mark with their foxtrot. She was all W-O-M-A-N in their routine pop-popping it all over the stage. Len and Bruno thought their dance lacked finesse but Carrie Ann disagreed and said she loved it. They received a 9-8-8 for a 25 out of 30 from the judges.

Next, Jennie & Derek performed a mambo. In their pre-dance taped bit, Derek was trying to help Jennie get over the nerves she felt on the dance floor when the lights came on. Derek told her to just picture Len in his underwear. Eeks! I didn't need to see that ABC! I thought their mambo was their best dance of the season and the judges agreed. The judges gave them 9-9-9 for a 27 out of 30.

Jane & Tony danced third and they did the jive. I was glad she finally had to do a fast-stepping dance because I think the powers that be at DWTS have been going easier on them than most of the other couples so far this season. Their jive was awful and I couldn't wait for it to be over. They received a 8-7-7 for a 22 out of 30 from the judges. (I have no idea how Carrie could have given her an 8 on that.)

Fourth to dance were Cameron & Edyta with a samba. While it was nothing to write home about, I liked their routine fine enough. Bruno found their American Indian costumes a little weird though and Len didn't like their routine. They scored a 9-8-8 for a 25 out of 30 from with their tribal samba.

Mel & Maks were the fifth couple to dance. Their rhumba was HOT! The routine was very classy and sensual and just out-and-out wonderful. They ended the number with Mel sitting in Bruno's lap and Maks giving Carrie Ann a kiss at the judges' table. What did the judges think? They all loved it it! They thought it was great enough to award them the second perfect score of 30 this season. Wow! And they only practiced for six hours this week. Double wow!

Marie & Jonathan were the next to dance and as soon as I heard they were doing the paso doble I just knew it wasn't going to be good. She (like Jane) has been coddled with her dances this season so I was glad they finally gave them something different. And boy was it awful! The best line of the night went to Len in his critique of them: he compared her to a gypsy around the campfire preparing her sausages!!! They received an 8-8-7 for a 23 out of 30 from the judges. (Kinda high I thought.)

Last to dance were Helio & Julianne with their cha-cha-cha. Can I just say that Helio looked dreadful in that 70's suit? Eww. His little race car friends are never going to let him live down that outfit. I see hilarious Photoshop opportunities in his future. Besides that, they did a great job. They actually did a great enough job that they received their first perfect 10 of the season! A 9-10-9 was awarded to them for a 28 out of 30.

After the couple dances, they all performed in a group dance. It was time to rumble "greasers" and "jock" style and it was set to that grand old 1950's ditty 'Rockin' Robin'. The rehearsal footage they showed was hilarious and I couldn't believe that that was the only rehearsal they had for the number. I thought the dance was cute and amazingly put together and I loved the legal (ahem) lifts.

On the results show tonight, Barry Manilow (snooze) will be in the house and we'll get to see a preview of Carrie Ann and Bruno's new dancing show Dance Wars. The Dance Wars preview I'm looking forward to. Barry Manilow not so much. Of course, we'll also find out which of the stars goes home. Who do you think it will be?

I hope it is Marie and Jonathan leaving. That routine was just awful!!!!

I think it was quite arrogant of Maks to make that comment about only practicing 6 hours and getting the perfect score. Seeing how hard most of the others are working I think he should have kept his mouth shut!

Yes, it was a great show last night, but new lines have been drawn between Jane and Marie and the rest. You are so right that Marie and Jane have been coddled. Now that we're down to seven, I am glad the gloves are off.

I still like Helio and Julianne. As for Mel and Maks, the rhumba is one of the "easier" dances, but they did look great.

I think Jane will go tonight.

I recorded the show last night and just finished watching it! There were so many good dances on it! But, I'm thinking it will be Jane who goes tonight...she looked very stiff and very uncomfortable with her dance. She's very beautiful and elegant on the slower dances (like the judges said) but, like they also said, this just was not her dance.

Marie looked ok...just a little uncomfortable. I think her general personality keeps her from getting into the different "roles" that the dancers have to get into in order to really make the dance work.

As for Mel and Maks, well they are my favorites and the dance they performed last night was awesome! Whether or not the rhumba is one of the "easier" dances to perform or not (and honestly, I don't think I could do it and get the emotion right), the routine was deserving of the 30 they received! I'm really pulling for them to win! They've done some great routines in the show to this point!

Sabrina...well, I don't know what to say about her...there's just something about her that bugs me and I can't put my finger on it. As for her hanging out of her costume, she usually does. Maybe she thinks that it will help with the scores!

It was great to see Helio be himself during his performance last night! He just has a great personality and it really comes through!

I agree with Lori. Sabrina IS great. But I also feel the same way, something about watching her, I just cant put my finger on it.
I'm thinking maybe its the weight.
Hate to say it, but she just does not look very good doing the dances, even though she is amazing.

I think Jane is good at a certain style, but she really does not have much depth.
Last night showed that she can only do certain dances. The judges love her, you can obviously tell they want her around.

I think Cameron was robbed!
Their dance was amazing. They have great chemistry, and he has improved so much.
They should have gotten 10s.

Am not usually a fan of Mel and Maks but they were amazing last night.

I like Marie, but I dont like Paso Doble. Shes not in the same league as the rest (except Jane) so she should be gone soon, if not tonight.

Jennie is intersting.
She has a totally different vibe when shes onstage. In a good way.
I hope she goes far.
Shes just as good as Sabrina or Mel, she just has to believe it herself.

Helio was good last night.

HD, how could you NOT love Barry Manilow??
I am totally excited for him tonight.
Hes such a fun showman to watch.
Saw him live in Vegas and he was great.

I agree, snore on Barry. Good thing I will be taping tonights so I can fast forward.

I have a problem with Sabrina, simply because she does dancing as part of her career, so it is a bit of a stacked deck. I had to chuckle during the group dance. The guys were all doing lifts (including the stars) except for Sabrina's partner - instead she flipped him. She is a larger gal, wonder if he was afraid of hurting his back.

Jane is elegant, but last night was painful to watch, because it was a dance to let loose, and she just can't let go. Beautiful woman at that age, or any age. Wish I looked so good.

Frankly, would like to see Marie go next. Love her personality, but her dancing is just not up to the same level as the others. Even in the easier ones she has had in the past, they are not good, and last night's was hard to watch.

We'll see what happens tonight.

OMG! I am really in shock tonite after seing Sabrina leave. What in the world are the voters looking at. Marie and Jane should never have been there first of all and now its past due time for both to exit. Interesting that Jane felt she would leave tonite; however, she has food poisoning and just could not hang around tonite. Ole girl should have stayed after all, she move the Second place.....think this is last season for me and the voting online last nite was weird. Had to email the local station because each time I only had 2 votes....... thanks HD for letting me vent. Bye now.
