I'm Tryin' To Be A Leader Here!

I'm going to start off by saying that I absolutely LOVED Kid Nation tonight!!!

I loved everything about it. I can't think of a single thing I disliked. I love all of the kids. I love how the show is structured. I love the premise. I love the rewards. I was honestly blown away by how much I loved it. I really wasn't expecting to love it this much! I'll stop saying 'love' now.

Some of my favorite kids tonight: Sophia, Alex, Jimmy, Laurel, Mike, and Michael. I'm still sad that Jimmy chose to leave. But it had to have been really hard on him. He was only 8 years old and he really missed his parents.

I loved (did I say that again?) the teamwork between the groups even when they were competing against each other. I'm definitely glad that they chose the outhouses over a TV! When they filled the pot full of pasta for mac and cheese was priceless.

I loved how they did the town hall meeting. First, they're asked how happy they are with the council and get to air any grievances they have. Second, they're asked if anybody wants to go home. I'm still sad about Jimmy. Finally, the council chooses one of the kids to receive the gold star worth $20,000. Tonight's gold star was given to Sophia and I think she deserved it. She did apologize for being bossy and said she's trying to improve but she did a fine job leading everybody in the kitchen early on.

I really can't wait for next week's show. What did you think about it tonight? Do you have any fave kids yet? Do you like how they're split into districts? How do you like the job split between districts? What do you think about the town council? Are you going to watch again?

Just like you, I absolutely loved this show!

I figured that I would enjoy it from the moment I first heard of the premise, if only because this is something I would have begged my parents to do as a child.

I have yet to decide on a favourite if only because I love them all! Though I do have a soft spot for Anjay, he is just so adorable.

I was sad to see Jimmy leave but I understand that for some, the adventure isn't enough to get rid of homesickness.

These children have all impressed me beyond anything I ever expected to see on this show. They restore my faith in the next generation of America and I am happy that there is a program like this on the air. Not only will the children participating learn a great deal about themselves, I think children watching at home will learn a lot as well.

And I will admit that during the competition when everyone started cheering for the final team (green I think but not sure) I teared up. I am so happy that even while they are competing, they are still cheering each other on.

Oh man, I'm tearing up again! *sniff*

You did such a great job with BB that I have decided to let you lead me through Kid Nation.

I was unsure how I was going to like it, but i really don't think that it could have gotten any better. This was the most original idea for reality TV since Survivor.

It wasn't bad, in fact,it was suprisingly touching....I wonder what the critics are gonna say about it tomorrow (I would hope they would eat just a little humble pie). Let's see how the ratings turn out tomorrow, and how episode 2 does.

In the weeks leading up to this show, I heard many experts, parents, etc, commenting that this was a bad idea, yada, yada, yada. How wrong, and hope they are feisting on humble pie as I type. I loved the show, and as another poster said, renews faith in coming generation.

As for my fav, not sure, but one has stood out, and he is a blond kid, not sure of age, that has spouted numerous words, that were impressive. Sorry, just don't remember his name.

Excellent show, and to all those dooms dayers, Boo Hiss.

So HD, I will be coming back here throughout KidNation. Thank you for your blogging format. When I heard about KidNation, I thought oh how ridiculous. But... after seeing the premier, I like it... a LOT! The main reason I like it is because the players (kids) are actually ENTHUSIASTIC! Unlike in adult reality shows. We, the audience, are pretty much FORCED to be positive in our outlook on the contestants, because they're kids! I mean, who would rag on a kid? Not. At least I HOPE not! I'm very happy that I gave KidNation a try tonight, and thank you for some class CBS... as opposed to this season on Big Brother!

I loved it! I'm a teacher....and I wondered how this would work. I think the kids are figuring out that hard work equals good pay. I was excited when they chose the outhouses instead od the TV and their rationale behind their decision.
Can't wait until next week!

HD,
Im also one of your BB followers!!

Loved the show, knew I would!! I teared up a few times for silly reasons. Not sure of their names yet, but the girl who danced for the bicycle was just the cutest!

The beauty queen...she really did good at the end..Im so glad she stayed. I just cried for Jimmy every time he shed a tear..he was just adorable They all are adorable even the Older kid who wrote blue all over. He is going to do a full 360, cause he see's "stars"..We will see great things from him next week.

My favorite part is how the older kids deal with the younger kids...For the red headed girl (council) who told Jimmy she will subsitute for his mom/dad...was just so touching.

Just "loved" "loved" the show!!

Thanks HD as always,
Deb

Hi HD.
I too really enjoyed this week's episode. I hope that in future shows we get to meet more of the kids out there. I understand that there are too many to focus on all of them each time but each one is interesting.

I thought the group was getting on remarkably well. Especially since they had a council imposed upon them. While I enjoyed Sofia, I was also giggling when she had to admit that the yellow team were good cooks. Infact, it appeared they did a better job than she did. When Sofia cooked breakfast she didn't make enough for everyone.
I found my self wondering what I would have chosen at that age. Would I have recognised all of Sofia's positive input or would the more agressive actions against the cooking team have soured my outlook? I thought it was great that the council were able to look at this objectivly.

I want to know more about the rules. The council are not eligible for the gold star? That must be really hard for them.

I know I'll be watching next week.

I liked the first episode. I think the only thing I would have done differently is not tell all the kids that the gold star was worth $20K. I think that will have a huge impact on the rest of the show.

I was sorry Jimmy left, but good on him for realizing he was just too homesick to stay.

I am also glad that the blue team (with all the older kids) did not win the challenge. That would have been too predictable.

HI HD

I also loved this show. I have to admit I am a yellow fan. I just love the way that they are all so young and they still went out there and gave it there all. I agree with another post when they said they shouldnt of told them about the star being worth so much. Unlike KN I will be watching this show everyweek.

I can't believe that I sat and watched another reality show last night after a summer of BB, but I did watch Kid Nation. I don't know what I was expecting when I heard about it, but I wasn't expecting what I saw. It is like a junior 'Survivor'. But I did like it.
Think that the leader of the red team, Mike, I think his name was, was a little over the top, but still good.
If I have to pick a favorite now, it would be for sure the little boy who left. What a sweet baby, I just wanted to pick him up and tuck him in, in his own bed at home...
After that it would be for the little boy who the leaders first were going to give the gold star to, who made such a good speech to the kids. Thought he was darling and think you will see more good things from him.
The only other one that really sticks in my mind, is the leader of the green team. I think that she is the best leader so far and her compassion for the little boy who went home was above and beyond!
I'm teetering on whether or not I like the little girl who is the leader of the yellow team. Glad that she is going to stick it out, but her comment,"I don't do dishes, I'm a beauty queen.", are reminisent of some older diva's I just watched on BB.
I have 5 adopted children, 6, 7, 8, 9 & 9, and I saw all their faces on that show. Think I'm gonna be hooked on this show....
My appology for not knowing names right now, but I'm sure you know whom I am speaking of.

I honestly didn't think I would like this show just from the promos. I thought it would be extremely cheesy. I have to say I LOVED it!! I will be glued every week just like I was during BB. It gives me great hope for the next America.

HD, I loved this show! My eyes welled up with tears and I was dying to give little Jimmy a hug! Way to go CBS!! My 9 yo son loved it too. I am glad there is a show out there that we can sit down and watch together!

Loved it, Loved it, Loved it.

I thought it was just fabulous and the kids are doing all "kids" proud.

I was happy the challenge, a way to be rewarded and was thrilled with the concept of the "gold star". I believe that aspect will encourage the kids to work together and work hard.

Oh poor Jimmy. His situation pulled at my heartstrings. Not so much that he was homesick but that he had to experience that on National TV and I only hope the kids back at home won't laugh at him.

I just wanted to pick up all of them and squeeze them.

Very happy and I hope the criticism of this show dies down and everyone will see the value.

All right, after reading your comments I decided to look at the show, and see how I felt after watching it. The show was compelling, but I found it very disturbing. I think Jimmy said it all. 8 years old is way too young for that kind of thing. If I had children, I would not let them do something like this unless they were at least 12. I think that it will actually be a good experience for the adolescents. I question the wisdom of having children under 12 in that kind of a situation, though. The set looks very unsanitary. Children are more susceptible to disease and injury than adults. I don't like the concept of the gold star, though. Isn't that a lot like a preschool concept? It would be better if the producers gave all the kids a decent salary for their efforts.

That said, the boy who saved the first meeting really has leadership qualities. I had to laugh when the kids who didn't follow a cookbook came up with a decent meal. I also liked Sophia dancing for a bicycle. I might watch the next episode. Even though I feel that the producers were out of line with some of the stuff, what's done is done, so I might see how it turned out. (See what you've done to me, HD, got me to watch a show I was 100% opposed to).

One thing I will not do, however. Unlike reality shows with adults, no matter how annoying or bratty a child is, I'm not going to bring it up. (There were definitely a couple of kids who annoyed me, and not the older boys). I actually liked the 2 older boys. They are typical of kids that age. They cracked me up. If they do this show again, I hope they only use adolescents. This show would actually be interesting with adults instead of children.

OK, fine HD - you did it, hats off to you. I wasn't going to watch Kid Nation. Was opposed to using kids this way, blah, blah, blah. After reading your comments on the show, and then other posters comments, I watched it this morning on CBS' web site.

What an great show. These kids really were pulling together. I think after the gold star award, that helped the two older "blue team" guys realized they better get in line with helping build the town - instead of pulling those grafetti pranks.

And the bike dancer - you know all the kids were supporting her - for her to be able to afford the bike. But she might want to pull it in a bit or kids will turn on her.

The kid who pulled things together in the first town meeting and then gave a good speech at the next one - he is very smart, without making his abilities an issue. Has leadership capabilities written all over!

So thanks HD - I have moved from one addition (BB8) to another! :) At least this one isn't 24/7 - and frankly, is a feel good show!

I watched it last night, and loved it. The kids are so funny: "...that would be hard on the colon," chasing the chickens, dancing for a bicycle. It's great that the kids don't seem too interested in becoming famous.
